Superiorum permissu, ac privilegio. (GEN) Printed in four volumes. (DES) Text printed throughout in two columns. The title page of each volume is decorated with an emblem consisting of interwoven vine tendrils and fruits, enclosing two cherubs, one either side of interwoven initials. Six raised bands on the spine, with gold decoration in each panel, enclosed within two horizontal gold lines at the top and bottom of each panel. The binding of each text block remains firm. The edges of the boards are somewhat worn, the corners bent inwards and beginning to delaminate. The boards are scuffed in places. There are water stains at the outer edges of the pastedowns of both boards. Some pages of volume III are deeply stained in brown. (OWN) Each volume has a 'Walter Kerr Hamilton 1854' bookplate on the pastedown of the upper board, and a Salisbury Theological Library label on the first flyleaf. And each volume has a 'Sarum Theological College 1860' bookplate on the verso of the title page. On the first (shortened) title page of Volume I a hand-written note says that this work is a gift from the bishop's affectionate chaplain, H (?) Lidden.
